Oaxaca City Aquaduct

On one of our walks through the city, we stumbled across an aqueduct that was built during the colonial period of Oaxaca city.

It resembles the typical style used by the Romans in European aqueduct construction.  It supplied water to the city from the nearby mountains.  It is constructed with green volcanic stone, typical of the colonial churches of the area, and some of the older roadways and sidewalks.

In modern times, the arches have been repurposed as individual entry ways to homes and businesses and water is brought into the city through steel pipes.
