Tule Tree

One of our stops was to visit the Tule Tree.  This is an Ahuehuete tree which is named after the town of Tule (which means Cattail in Spanish) where it is found.

The Ahuehuete is the national tree of Mexico and is a type of Cyprus which requires a lot of water and is generally found near rivers or areas with a high water table.

This particular tree is over 2000 years old and is famous as the world record holder for largest circumference.  It is not terribly tall, but very, very wide with lots of ins and outs around the trunk.
